Please consider sponsoring the Stonewall Bar Association of Georgia ("SBA") for the coming year and ensure recognition of your firm, practice, or company at the Stonewall Bar Association’s 20th Annual Awards Dinner on October 16, 2014.

SBA was established in 1995 as a coalition of attorneys, judges, law students, paralegals, and other legal professionals who pledged to use their professional expertise to support the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people and to oppose discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.  A voluntary bar association, consisting of almost 300 dues-paying members, SBA publishes an on-line directory of attorneys who are willing to serve and be responsive to the needs of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender clients.  The organization also publishes a monthly newsletter that is emailed to 800 legal professionals, provides scholarships to law students, conducts continuing education for attorneys, and creates opportunities for networking with judges and other legal professionals.

This year, your support has enabled us to continue to offer important and relevant educational programming to both lawyers and laypersons, complete the 5th year of our mentoring program, and award three scholarships to law students to attend the Lavender Law Conference and Career Fair sponsored by the National LGBT Bar Association.  SBA joined organizations from around the country to submit amici briefs in the Sixth Circuit marriage cases, DeBoer v. Snyder (Michigan); Bourke v. Beshear (Kentucky); and Tanco v. Haslam (Tennessee), as well as Seventh Circuit cases, Baskin et al. v. Bogan; Fujii et al. v. Commissioner of the Indiana State Dept. of Revenue, et al.; and Lee et al. v. Abbott.  SBA also joined amicus briefs filed in in the Tenth Circuit in Kitchen v. Herbert (Utah) and Bishop v. Smith (Oklahoma), in which the Court recently affirmed the lower courts' holdings that the marriage bans at issue were unconstitutional.  We hosted numerous networking events for attorneys, law students, and other legal professionals to enable the support of our community and the inclusion of LGBT legal professionals.

With your help, we can continue our commitment to quality programming, education, and engaged action.

We are pleased to announce that this year’s 20th Annual Awards Dinner will take place at the Fabulous Fox Theater on October 16, 2014.  Our Keynote Speaker will be the renowned constitutional scholar and long-time LGBT advocate, Dr. William Eskridge.  Our dinner committee again is being lead by Co-Chairs Shelley Senterfitt and Douglas Selph, who organized last year’s dinner, and it is sure to be another big success.
